    Carehome.co.uk review

Our mother lived at Crossways Residential Care Home very happily for almost four years. She went in for respite care but felt so at home, she decided to stay. The staff are wonderful - kind, compassionate and very professional, actively cultivating a warm, family-style atmosphere. Nothing was ever too much trouble for them in looking after Mum's needs and we were very happy knowing that she was so safe and so well cared for by people we trusted. There were activities every day, good food, and a beautiful garden to relax in during the summer. The manager and activities co-ordinator actively encouraged Mum's interest in art - and some of her paintings still hang on the walls there, a touching reminder that each resident is loved, valued and fondly remembered. Crossways is excellently well run, with excellent communication between staff and family members. We are so grateful to the Crossways manager and his team for making Mum's final years so happy and contented.

    Response from Crossways

Thank you for your lovely review. It was a pleasure and a privilege to have cared for your mother and meet all her family. She is indeed fondly remembered.

I cannot recommend Crossways highly enough. The amazing team are led from the front by an equally amazing manager who is just as likely to be seen assisting the residents or serving meals as sat in an office. The staff are courteous, kind and always smiling, and the activities coordinator always has great ideas to encourage people to participate, whether that's painting, exercises or a quiz. The food is good and plentiful and there's always a cup of tea going! We are so glad to have found Crossways for our lovely Mum.

Mum has been at Crossways for over 5 years, the care is excellent and the staff very supportive, professional and friendly. The environment is very welcoming and we feel reassured that she is being well looked after. The manager and team communicate very well to keep us informed. Overall we are very happy and would recommend.

I can not thank Crossways enough for caring for my Dad in his last two months. My Dad wanted for nothing due to the staff's caring nature, attentiveness and love. We found all to be superb. Manager Kalvin was great at keeping me up to date, and my dads 'right hand man', Manu, had a special bond. A warm welcome from staff was also on hand with every visit. Lastly, thanks to Chef Glenn for his amazing, wholesome meals, which were a real highlight.

    Response from Crossways

It was a pleasure and a privilege to care for your dad even if just for a short while.

I have been very happy in this care home - it couldn't be any better. The staff has always been helpful and have put my mind at ease if I have been worried about my anxiety. Food is very good. I would always recommend this home to any friends and anyone thinking of getting their friends and parents into this lovely and relaxing care home.

My mother lived at Crossways for over 7 years, initially as respite and then permanently. The size and location of Crossways make it feel like a family home, and it is easy to integrate and get to know everyone. The management team and staff are excellent, well trained, friendly and compassionate. They treated my mother as an individual and I always felt that she was safe and secure and well cared for. The home is well run with plenty of facilities and social activities. I was always kept informed of any health issues and the team made sure that she received any medication required or visits from the Dr. I can highly recommend Crossways to anyone looking for respite or permanent care.

After two weeks in A&E then the trauma ward with 7 broken ribs and a broken scapula my daughters found Crossways Care Home for me to spend 2 weeks recuperating and aid my recovery. I found the home light, fresh, and airy, and to my relief did not smell like the usual old people's home. The cook served us excellent, nutritious home-cooked meals and I often had seconds. The staff were lovely, caring, helpful, and always friendly. Weather permitting I was usually enjoying the colourful garden. The manager was very hands-on, involved in the day-to-day running of the home, and always ready for a friendly chat.

My mum was looked after magnificently by all the staff at Crossways Residential Care Home for 16 months. The staff all looked after also Mama's relatives-they know us and understood us and cared for us all. The staff all accepted Mama into the Crossways family. I cannot sufficiently thank them all for all the love and care that they afforded to Mama and her family. If I had to spend my last days in a care home, I will only be too happy to spend them in Crossways.

Crossways Care Home is a well-run and very welcoming home from home. Mum soon settled there and enjoyed having company and joining in with the activities. Her care was always gentle and kind, staff did all they could to make sure she was comfortable. Her end-of-life care also deserves much praise, there was always good communication with the family. Thank you all.

Crossways Residential Care Home was always so lovely to Mum and to us. Shortly after moving in, Mum became bedridden and needed a lot of care. The staff were always so kind to us and we knew they were doing their best for our mum. We were totally informed at all times and felt confident that Mum was in the best place. Towards the end of her life, it was obviously a very difficult time for us all and it helped that we were reassured along the way and able to spend as much time as we needed with her right up to the end.

    Carehome.co.uk review

My mother lived at Crossways Residential Care Home very happily for four years until she passed away. From the time she moved in she was made to feel a part of the Crossways family and settled easily into life at this peaceful home. The staff are wonderful, never anything but attentive to Mum's needs, caring and compassionate towards her. During lockdowns, residents were kept safe and when visiting was restricted, I was comforted knowing Mum was being well looked after by people I trusted during what was a strange and difficult time for everyone. Staff turnover is low as is the use of agency staff so good relationships are built up with the residents with continuity of care. The garden is restful and beautifully maintained and I have fond memories of having a cuppa with Mum and her friends there under the apple tree in the summer. Mum passed away at Crossways as was her wish and could not have had better care during her final weeks when everyone made sure of her comfort. I cannot thank them enough.

Crossways Residential Care Home is an excellently well run care home with very caring staff. They treat residents as individuals and want them to see Crossways as their home. My father was treated with so much kindness, love and dignity. His wishes were listened to and he was helped to settle in well by all the staff. The care he received at the end of his life was exemplary, focusing on his comfort. The communication with the family was kind and sensitive. I thoroughly recommend Crossways Residential Care Home.

I was encouraged to apply to Crossways Cre Home in Lindfield, West Sussex for my husband to stay for respite care, this was due to me not being able to look after him at home anymore. Within a very short time, I was able to take him in after the manager had visited our home to take the necessary details required, I was then able to rest and knew he was safe and well cared for. He is now able to stay full time and I can say that I cannot find any fault that does not give me every confidence that this was the very best for him. I have received care and support myself, and all the staff are so kind, professional and cheerful. He has settled well and they are doing more than I would expect.

My mum has been living at Crossways for 4 years and was made to feel welcome right from the start. Crossways has a very relaxed homely atmosphere. The staff are happy and friendly. Many have worked there for a long time. You can see they are really professional, dedicated and caring. I cannot fault the care that my mum receives. She is treated as an individual and nothing is too much trouble. It gives me a real peace of mind that my mum is safe, happy and well cared for by the team at Crossways. Finally, I can see when I visited recently that they are doing all they can to be Covid safe.

    Carehome.co.uk review

My mother lived at Crossways for two and a half years. During that time she received excellent care. The staff demonstrate compassionate care, with an understanding of each person as an individual. Additionally, family and friends were welcomed when we visited. The last six months has been a very challenging time for everyone, and especially for Care Homes. It was reassuring to know that, despite the pandemic, she has been in safe care. The care given to her in her last weeks of life was exemplary. Crossways has been family, not just to my mother, but to us as well. Thank you so very much.

My mother was a resident at Crossways Residential Home for 7 1/2 years, from 2013 to 2020. She always said to me that she felt very lucky to be in a home that was so homely, caring and calm. The staff were extremely professional and they also showed courtesy and kindness. My mother loved music and there were many opportunities for her to sing both with recorded music and 'live' music, held at the home on a weekly basis. As her health deteriorated, the staff were very attentive to her needs and she was always well cared for.

My mother has been in the care home since early July 2016. Until early May she was living at home with me but after several serious illnesses was too frail at 100 years old to return home despite spending several weeks in a rehabilitation centre. We never wanted her to go into care but we both feel that she could not have found a better home. The staff at Crossways have been marvellous with her, helping her settle in and caring for her every need. She has been encouraged to overcome her small difficulties and loves her life at Crossways.

My father moved into Crossways in February 2013 following a stroke which left him wheelchair bound. For the most part the staff were very kind, caring and supportive to both my father and our family. Unfortunately, my father suffered from a chest infection which meant he had to go to hospital non October 2015 and was unable to return to Crossways. However, he spoke fondly of the staff and residents he met and was upset that he was unable to return. I would thoroughly recommend Crossways to friends and would thank the staff their for their care and compassion when looking after my father.

My parents have been residents in Crossways for ten years and the care has been excellent. My mother recently passed away and her end of life care was superb (as it was for my father). The staff were compassionate, gentle and understanding. They were patient and kind with my father as they still are, which is helping him and the family enormously in their grief. The management and therefore the staff understand the residents' needs and moods on a daily basis. It is a safe and loving environment where family and friends are always welcome. We are indebted to them for their care.

    Carehome.co.uk review

My mother stayed in Crossways for a week's respite care in March. It is hard for her to adapt to completely new surroundings, being blind and frail, but the staff could not have been more caring and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. As she can't see and needs a walking frame, some of the furniture had to be rearranged so that she could move around safely and have everything she needed to hand, but this was arranged quickly and willingly. The atmosphere in the home is warm and happy: everyone I met there, without exception, was friendly and welcoming. The only slight criticism is that the room was a bit small, but that didn't really matter for just a week's stay. In fact a better room was offered, but didn't have en suite facilities which my mother needed. I would happily recommend Crossways, and in fact my mother already has recommended it to several people!
  • RReview from Carol & JuliaDaughter of Resident★★★★★February 2016
My sister and I visited Crossways while Mum was in hospital. We were looking for a respite placement while Mum adjusted after her stay in hospital. We were immediately impressed by the helpfulness, hospitality and courtesy of staff, the comfortable homeliness of Crossways, the cleanliness and sweet smell of a beautiful flower display that greets visitors as they enter. In the dining room we were greeted by the appetising aroma of food cooking and felt as if we were entering a small residential hotel. The menu was written on a board for residents to see. The kitchen looked immaculate. the bathroom clearly designed to support people with mobility problems. Mum quickly took ownership of her room: organising her possession so she knew exactly where she wanted things to go. She responded very positively when we suggested she should stay and live there. She enjoyed the view on to the garden from her room and never took up the option of en suite: a bathroom was readily accessible. The care and food Mum received rapidly built up her strength and mobility using her Zimmer frame. Mum had ill-fitting dentures which made chewing difficult and the range of foods she would eat was limited. The staff always tried hard to provide her with a meal she could manage and enjoy. She always valued opportunities for as much independence as she could possibly manage and the dignity with which she was treated. She enjoyed the range of entertainment provide,d particularly quizzes, music, bingo, parties, visits from the dog and owns and Sunday services. Our family appreciated the 'open door' policy of Crossways for us to visit at any time and the hospitality of a cup of tea of coffee offered on every occasion. Mum usually preferred to entertain in her own room but we were always welcome in either of the two well-furnished lounges. Mum appreciated the services of hairdresser, chiropodist, audiologist and optometrist visiting her at Crossways. The staff were always friendly, respectful and courteous and Mum regarded them with great affection and appreciated their sense of humour. With the alarm button system help was always to hand. However, Mum's determination to remain independent meant that she preferred to do things for herself. This need for independence eventually led to her having a fall from which she never fully recovered. Crossways respected her determination and end of life wish not to go into hospital but to stay in the place she had come to recognise as home with the staff as her extended family. The palliative care provided and shown to Mum during the end weeks of her life was wonderful. The cooperation with the GP practice and district nurses meant that Mum's end days were comfortable and pain-free. It meant much to us, her daughters, to be able to sit with Mum and know that she knew we had acknowledged her wish that we should be by her side. Thank you to all the staff at Crossways for the care received.
