A Wonderful Day Out to Wakehurst Place for Crossways Residents

By Len Burgess

At Crossways Care Home, we always look for opportunities to create meaningful experiences beyond the home, and recently, our residents enjoyed a truly special day out with a visit to the beautiful Wakehurst Place.

Set in the stunning West Sussex countryside, Wakehurst Place provided the perfect setting for a relaxing and enjoyable outing. From the moment we arrived, there was a real sense of excitement among residents, many of whom were looking forward to spending time outdoors and taking in the natural beauty of the gardens.

The day was blessed with lovely weather, making it ideal for a gentle stroll through the grounds. Residents were able to enjoy the vibrant colours of the flowers, the peaceful surroundings, and the fresh air, all of which created a calm and uplifting atmosphere. For some, it brought back fond memories of past visits to gardens and countryside walks, sparking conversation and storytelling throughout the day.

One of the highlights of the visit was simply taking the time to slow down and appreciate the surroundings. Whether it was sitting quietly and enjoying the views, chatting with fellow residents, or exploring different areas of the gardens, everyone was able to enjoy the day at their own pace.

The variety of landscapes at Wakehurst Place meant there was always something new to see. From carefully maintained gardens to more natural woodland areas, the setting offered a wonderful mix of sights, sounds, and scents. It was a great opportunity for residents to reconnect with nature, which can have such a positive impact on wellbeing.

Of course, no day out would be complete without a well-earned break, and residents enjoyed refreshments together, sharing their favourite moments from the trip. There was plenty of laughter and conversation, with everyone clearly appreciating the chance to spend time together outside of the usual routine.

What made the day particularly special was the sense of freedom and enjoyment it brought. Getting out into the community, visiting a beautiful location, and experiencing something different can make a real difference, and it was clear that this trip had been a highlight for many.

Staff were on hand throughout the day to provide support and ensure that everyone felt comfortable and included, allowing residents to relax and fully enjoy the experience.
