A Royal Celebration at Crossways Care Home
By Len Burgess

There are moments in life that feel truly special, the kind that bring everyone together and create memories that will be talked about for years to come. At Crossways Care Home, one such moment recently took place as we celebrated an incredible milestone, a resident reaching their 100th birthday.
Turning 100 is an extraordinary achievement, a testament to a life filled with experiences, stories, and cherished memories. For our resident, this milestone was made even more remarkable with the arrival of a congratulatory card from King Charles III and Queen Camilla. Receiving a message from the King and Queen is a long-standing British tradition for centenarians, and it added a truly royal touch to an already unforgettable day.
The celebrations at Crossways were nothing short of heartwarming. The home was filled with laughter, smiles, and a real sense of togetherness as staff, fellow residents, friends, and family gathered to mark the occasion. Decorations adorned the room, with balloons, banners, and flowers creating a festive atmosphere worthy of such a special birthday.
At the centre of it all was our wonderful resident, who was in great spirits and clearly touched by the outpouring of love and attention. Stories were shared about their life, reflecting on the many decades they have lived through. From historical events to personal milestones, it was a reminder of how much the world has changed over the past century, and how valuable it is to hear and preserve these experiences.

One of the highlights of the day was, of course, the presentation of the royal card. Carefully opened and read aloud, it brought a sense of pride and joy to everyone in the room. It was a moment that connected our celebration at Crossways to a wider national tradition, recognising the importance and honour of reaching such a significant age.
The celebrations continued with a delicious birthday cake, candles lit and ready to be blown out, surrounded by well-wishers singing “Happy Birthday.” There were plenty of photo opportunities, capturing smiles and special moments that will be treasured by family and staff alike.
Events like this are a wonderful reminder of what makes life at Crossways Care Home so special. It’s not just about providing care, it’s about creating a community where residents feel valued, celebrated, and truly at home. Milestones like a 100th birthday are an opportunity to honour not just the years lived, but the person behind them.
As the day came to a close, there was a shared feeling of gratitude. Gratitude for the life our resident has lived, for the memories they have shared, and for the chance to celebrate such a rare and meaningful occasion together.
At Crossways, we are incredibly proud to have been part of this milestone and to continue supporting our residents in creating moments that matter. Here’s to a truly royal celebration and an unforgettable 100th birthday.
